Venetian Plaster Wax Removal

How to remove wax from Venetian plaster is a great question because if that question doesn’t come to your mind you will end up damaging your wall. How? You have to remove the wax in order to let your paint adjust the surface.
You can remove the wax using mineral spirit. Firstly, Wear your gloves. Then on a lint-free clean cloth pour one-fourth cup of mineral spirit and start rubbing the cloth against the waxed wall. You will be able to get rid of the wax on the wall this way. After getting done with the wall let it dry, if there is still some wax left we will try something else.

To clean the residue of the wax, use a sand palm and attach an 80 grit sandpaper to it. Sand the wax off with the sandpaper, clean the dust with a brush and then with a damp cloth clean the surface again. Let it dry. Touch and feel, there is no wax left, right?

Great! Now we will head toward the next step.

Prepare the wall again

The next step is for the 120 grit sandpaper, remember we had it on our shopping list? We will have to sand the wall again with it to ensure our primer gets attached flawlessly. So sand with the 120 grit sandpaper, clean the dust and wet wipe the wall. Let it dry for priming.
Apply Primer
Next comes the primer. Cover everything around with painting tape that you do not want to be coated with unwanted color. What primer should you choose? Ask the question to the store manager providing the detail of what products your wall currently have. Probably the answer would be quartz or alkyd primer.

Pour the primer into your painting tray, give it a nice stir and coat the wall surface gently. A thin coat with a long roller might be a nice way. Use a ladder to reach the upper part. Let the layer dry properly.

Apply Latex Paint

Finally, the wall is ready to be transformed into your favorite color. Clean the painting tray or grab a fresh one and pour a latex paint of your desired color. Start applying the paint with a nice brush or roller. You can even use a paint sprayer if you are comfortable with it.

Dry The Paint

Always try to choose a nice sunny day for a painting project. Keep the doors and window open which will help to dry the wall and not damp. Moreover, you can get rid of the unpleasant smell from the painting materials.

Keep the place safe from children or pets where you are running your painting project. If the weather is not in your favor, turn on the fan or air conditioner to dry the wall. Before the wall is completely dry and crispy, remove the painting taps very carefully. Removing this painting taps a bit earlier will keep the wall safe from any cracking or peeling.

How to Make Venetian Plaster Look Like Marble

In order to make your Venetian plaster look like marble, you have to follow some painting technique.

Step 1

At first start with preparing the surface with a quartz priming session. After the surface is dry coat it with a thin layer of pastel plaster. The base layer should be very thin.

Step 2

Prepare the plaster cream. Artisans take one day to prepare the Venetian plaster. Mix one part water with two parts plaster powder. Then mix the water and plaster powder with a drill and paddle like you mix a cake batter. Remember to put the water first and then add the powder little by little. Let the mixture sit overnight. Then when you are ready to work, use the drill and paddle to wake the mixture for a textured pattern on the surface. Do not make it too hard to move. Mix for 2 minutes and when it is thick enough to apply and roll with a painting knife, it is done.

Step 3

Now, coat with the plaster batter. Take some of the mixtures on a putty knife, put them on a Venetian plaster finishing trowel and apply them to the surface. So how do you do that? The marble magic gets its shape here. Try to make a wave-like or maybe marble pattern while coating with the plaster. Put a lot of creamy textured plaster and play with it on the surface. Take away the excess mixture and make it smooth. You can divide the plaster and put different color. Put the colored plaster mix and dab it on the surface to create the pattern.

Step 4

We will let the layer dry. When it is quite dried we will start burnishing with the trowel. Do not put much pressure while burnishing. Slightly go downwards with the edges of the trowel. Keep smoothing the surface. Keep doing little arched patterns lightly while burnishing. It will shortly start shining,
